A Milestone of Healing in Diocese of Butare

On Sunday, October 13, 2024, the heart of the Diocese of Butare, Gakoma Catholic Parish, became a beacon of hope and reconciliation. This day marked the completion of the first phase of reconciliation teachings, a momentous occasion for our community. The event commenced with a Eucharistic Mass led by our esteemed Bishop Yohani Bosiko Ntagungira, along with the retired Bishop Filipo Rukamba, whose wisdom and guidance have long been pillars of our faith.

The ceremony was honored by the presence of the Ministry of Unity and Civic Engagement, as well as our devoted priests, religious figures, and many participants of the reconciliation journey. Among those present were individuals seeking forgiveness and survivors of the 1994 Tutsi Genocide, who bravely came forward to offer forgiveness to those who had wronged them.

In total, 122 participants completed the first phase of the reconciliation teachings, with 90 members of our Catholic community and others from different denominations. This milestone reflects the unwavering spirit of forgiveness and unity within the Diocese of Butare.

This journey of healing and reconciliation is a testament to our collective commitment to building a future rooted in peace and understanding.
